RAM shortage and its impact on tech

The RAM shortage due to AI is driving up prices and delaying product releases across the industry. In the video‑game sector, both Sony and Nintendo are feeling the effects.

PlayStation 6 delay

Sony is reportedly considering pushing back the debut of the PlayStation 6 to 2028 or 2029, according to sources quoted by Bloomberg. Earlier reports from Mashable in December suggested that a delay was possible, and this recent confirmation adds weight to those concerns. Previous leaks had estimated a 2027 release for the PS6.

Switch 2 price increase

Nintendo is also facing pressure from the memory shortage. Bloomberg reports that the company may raise the price of the Switch 2 later this year. A 2025 rumor about a price hike due to tariffs (source) never materialized, but the current memory constraints could prompt a new adjustment.

Neither Sony nor Nintendo responded to Bloomberg’s request for comment.
