Spotify reserves tickets for top fans

If you are a top fan of an artist, Spotify will give you a chance to book a ticket to their next show. This is the audio platform’s new bid to keep its users engaged and stream more to become eligible to be a top fan.

Spotify didn’t give an exact criterion for what makes a “real fan,” but said it will use signals like streams, shares, and other activity. The platform will monitor activity to ensure users don’t game these stats using bots or AI agents.

“There will be significantly more superfans than there are seats available on a tour, so not every fan will receive an offer. And by only inviting validated fans, we will help ensure more tickets will go straight to fans instead of scalpers,” — Spotify blog post

Eligibility and purchase process

  • Eligible fans receive an email and an in‑app notification to buy two tickets.
  • The offer is limited to users aged 18+ in the United States.
  • Fans have a dedicated window of roughly one day to complete the purchase.
  • Users must keep alerts for live events and location settings turned on.

Spotify only facilitates the sale; the actual ticket purchase is completed on a partner’s website. Fans can choose any show on the tour, selecting date, location, and seat type (availability varies).

Rollout timeline

  • Starting this summer, Spotify will reserve tickets for select artists on their newly announced tours.
  • The program will gradually expand to tours of different sizes.
  • Follow specific venues to get details on upcoming concerts.
  • Concerts‑near‑you playlists for discovering nearby shows.
  • Ticket‑sale experiments: Spotify experimented with direct ticket sales in 2022 before moving to a partner model.

The company reports having facilitated over $1.5 billion in ticket sales for artists.
