New playlist organization tools

Spotify is updating its mobile app with new playlist tools for organization and bulk edits, as well as the ability to download songs and podcasts in the background for offline playback. These features shift focus away from recent AI additions such as the ability to generate personalized podcasts or create AI‑produced covers and remixes of songs.

Playlist folders on mobile

  • The desktop‑only playlist‑folder feature is now available on mobile.
  • Folders can be named and arranged freely.
  • Nested folders are supported, allowing a hierarchy that matches your preferred organization structure.

Bulk editing

  • You can now move or remove multiple songs or podcasts from a playlist in a single action.
  • Bulk editing also works with your Spotify queue, making it easy to rearrange upcoming tracks.

Reshuffle and background downloads

  • A new reshuffle button creates a fresh shuffled order for a playlist or album when the current sequence feels stale.
  • Background downloads let you start a download, use other apps, and have the music or podcasts ready for offline playback once you return to Spotify.

Availability

  • Playlist folders and bulk playlist editing are available now for all users globally.
  • Bulk queue editing, background downloads, and the reshuffle feature are currently limited to Premium subscribers.
