Overview
Sony’s Xperia 1 flagships have looked largely unchanged since 2020. The latest model, the Xperia 1 VIII, finally breaks that pattern with a new design and upgraded camera system.
Design Changes
- The traditional three‑vertical camera layout has been replaced by a square camera island.
- The island houses the three lenses, the flash, and a Sony logo, all raised and slightly sloped from the phone’s back panel.
- This new arrangement moves away from the long‑standing top‑left corner placement used in the previous six generations.
Camera Improvements
- The telephoto camera receives a substantial upgrade, promising better optical zoom performance.
- An AI camera assistant is introduced, building on Google’s Camera Coach concept to help users capture better shots.
