Overview
Sony’s latest noise‑cancelling headphones have been leaked. Images of the 10th‑anniversary model, the 1000X “The Collexion” Edition, were shared online by OnLeaks. The headphones are expected to launch tomorrow, a year after the WH‑1000XM6 series.
Design Changes
- Padding & Ear Cups: Thicker leatherette padding and larger ear cups compared to the XM6.
- Buttons & Grilles: Buttons are more spaced out, and the microphone grilles have additional breathing room.
- Headband Stems: Available in glossy black or chrome‑on‑white, depending on the color choice.
- Touch Controls: Relocated to the side and rear of each cup.
Durability
The XM6 received complaints about durability. Sony addressed this by reinforcing the headband stems, making them a single piece of polished metal rather than a forked design.
Accessories
- A purse‑style carry case is included.
- A headphone cable is provided.
- The inclusion of a USB‑C charging cable is uncertain, as leaked materials conflict on this point.
Battery Life
- Up to 24 hours of playback with active noise‑cancelling (ANC).
- Up to 32 hours with ANC off.
- Quick‑charge: 5 minutes provides approximately 1.5 hours of use.
Audio Tuning
Sony partnered with three world‑class mastering studios for driver tuning: Battery Studios, Sterling Sound, and Coast Mastering.
Market Position
The Collexion edition appears to be positioned as a luxury product, comparable to Apple’s $549 AirPods Max, which received a refresh earlier this year with an H2 chip.
