Snapdragon Wear Elite is here: The first Elite chip for watches and AI gadgets
Source: Android Authority
Overview
- Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon Wear Elite chip, its first Elite‑branded processor for smartwatches.
- The new chip offers big increases in CPU and GPU performance, along with dedicated AI silicon for running AI models.
- Qualcomm says the first products with the Snapdragon Wear Elite chip will arrive in the second half of 2026.
Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon X Elite line in 2023 as its top‑of‑the‑line PC chip family, followed by the Snapdragon 8 Elite in 2024, which powers many premium Android phones. The company has now revealed its first Elite‑branded chip for wearables and smartwatches: the Snapdragon Wear Elite processor.
A major step up for wearables
The Snapdragon Wear Elite is designed for smartwatches, AI pins, and AI pendants. It is built on a 3 nm process, a shrink from the Snapdragon W5 Plus Gen 1’s 4 nm design.
Key specifications
- CPU: Five‑core (1 × big core @ 2.1 GHz + 4 × little cores @ 1.9 GHz). Qualcomm does not identify the core architecture, only noting they are not Oryon cores, but promises up to a five‑fold increase in single‑threaded performance.
- GPU: Up to 7× higher maximum FPS compared with previous Wear chips.
Integrated AI hardware
The Wear Elite introduces an embedded Hexagon NPU, the first dedicated AI accelerator in a Snapdragon wearable chipset. It supports low‑power use cases such as keyword/activity recognition and noise cancellation/suppression. Qualcomm claims the NPU can:
- Run on‑device AI models with up to two billion parameters
- Process up to 10 tokens per second
Enabling features like smart replies, text creation, summaries, and fitness coaching.
Battery life and charging
- Up to 30 % longer days‑of‑use than prior silicon.
- Supports 50 % charge in just 10 minutes.
These gains complement the industry’s move toward silicon‑carbon batteries, which could further extend smartwatch runtimes.
Connectivity options
The chipset supports six connectivity types:
- 5G RedCap (reduced‑capability)
- Micro‑power Wi‑Fi
- NB‑NTN satellite connectivity
- Bluetooth 6.0
- GNSS
- UWB
OEMs can select which features to include, so not every Wear Elite device will necessarily have 5G, UWB, or satellite support.
Availability
Qualcomm expects the first smartwatches and other wearable gadgets powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite to ship in the second half of 2026.
