Search Live visual update

The Google app’s Search Live feature lets you have a spoken, conversational interaction with AI Mode, where you can freely ask follow‑up questions or interrupt the app to redirect it mid‑response. The UI has looked largely unchanged since the feature debuted last year, but recent evidence points to a significant visual overhaul.

New animation

While testing beta version 17.18.22.sa.arm64 of the Google app, we observed a slick new animation that plays when interacting with Search Live:

  • A purplish‑blue hue bounces around the edges of the screen as you speak.
  • As Search Live responds, a color‑changing light emanates from the bottom of the display, shifting to match the speech.

The functional behavior remains the same, but the animation adds a pleasing visual cue.

Home screen refresh

The Google app’s home screen also received a touch‑up:

  • Buttons under the search bar are proportionally smaller.
  • The Search Live button is now labeled Talk.
  • The image‑generation button—previously a banana emoji—is replaced with a stylized stack‑of‑photos icon and the label Create.

These changes echo a colorful refresh spotted last week for the Gemini app.

A similar visual upgrade is in progress for the Gemini app, as reported last week. Neither the Search Live nor Gemini updates are live yet, even in the latest beta version of the Google app, but the UI tweaks suggest a public rollout in the near future.

⚠️ An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work‑in‑progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release.
