TL;DR

  • One UI 8.5 beta now supports partial screen recording on Galaxy S25.
  • The feature can automatically detect the area you want to record, or you can select it manually.
  • One UI 8.5 will launch in stable form on the Galaxy S26 series.

Partial Screen Recording in One UI 8.5

The new screen‑recording option lets you capture only a portion of the display on Galaxy S25 devices. The capability was first spotted in an October test build of One UI 8.5 and is now available in the ongoing beta.

How It Works

When you start a screen recording, One UI presents two choices:

  1. Record the entire screen
  2. Record a section of the screen

If you select the latter, the phone attempts to automatically identify the region to record. You can also define the area manually if the automatic detection isn’t what you need.

Comparison with Other Platforms

  • OnePlus phones and computers running ChromeOS, macOS, and Windows already offer partial‑screen recording.
  • Android itself does not include this feature, making Samsung’s implementation a notable upgrade, especially for devices with large displays.
