TL;DR

  • Galaxy phone owners are experiencing an issue with Quick Share’s AirDrop support.
  • Files sent to an iPhone are missing metadata, such as location and lens details.
  • Samsung has confirmed it is aware of the problem and is working on a fix.

Quick Share AirDrop Support Rollout

Samsung recently began rolling out Quick Share AirDrop support to its Galaxy phones. The feature first arrived on the Galaxy S26 series and is now spreading to older Galaxy devices via the One UI 8.5 beta. The functionality enables quick file transfers between Galaxy phones and iPhones.

Metadata Issue

When a file is shared through Quick Share, its metadata (file size, creation date, etc.) should transfer along with the file. However, many Galaxy owners have reported that certain metadata is stripped when sending files to an iPhone. Specifically:

  • Photos: location and camera‑lens information are missing.
  • Videos: almost all metadata is lost, with only basic details like resolution retained.

The problem appears to be more pronounced with video files.

Samsung’s Response

A moderator on the Korean Samsung community site confirmed that the issue exists when sharing files with iPhones. The moderator also stated that the Quick Share team is aware of the bug and is preparing a fix that will be included in the next software update.
