Ryan Coogler's X-Files reboot gets the green light at Hulu

Hulu has officially green‑lit a pilot for Ryan Coogler’s reboot of The X‑Files, a project three years in the making, according to Deadline. Coogler, who has a five‑year exclusive television deal with Disney (Hulu’s parent company), will direct and write the pilot. Jennifer Yale is attached as showrunner, having previously held the role on The Copenhagen Test.

Cast

  • Danielle Deadwyler – signed on as co‑lead. Deadwyler is known for her roles in Till and The Harder They Fall.

The series will follow the original premise of two FBI agents investigating paranormal and unexplained phenomena. No confirmation has been provided regarding the involvement of former stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny.

Context

The announcement came on the same day Coogler won the BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay for Sinners. Earlier in the year, Sinners earned a record 16 Oscar nominations, including Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture. Coogler’s film credits also include writing and directing Creed, Black Panther, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
