Rivian rolls out an Apple Watch app with vehicle controls and digital key support

Overview
Rivian’s new Apple Watch app lets owners control certain aspects of their EV directly from their wrist, reducing the need to carry a phone. With a tap, users can lock and unlock doors, sound the alarm, and vent the windows. After setting up the digital key, R1S and R1T Gen 2 owners can also unlock the vehicle automatically by simply walking up to it, thanks to the passive car key feature.

Background
Rivian first introduced digital car‑key support for Apple, Google Pixel, and Samsung devices in December. Apple added native digital‑key capabilities to iPhone and Apple Watch in 2020, and many automakers have since adopted the technology.
