Introduction

Beehiiv just dropped their 2025 rewind stats for my newsletter, One Tip a Week, and I’m pretty happy with the numbers. It’s been a year of consistent growth, which is awesome for a newsletter that had its first issue on January 20th.

Subscriber Growth

Started 2025 with 122 subscribers (posted last fall to sign up a bunch of times) and ended with 334 subscribers as of December 10th. That’s a 174 % increase over the year—steady, if not meteoric.

Best Growth Month

June was the standout month, adding 100 new subscribers. A shout‑out from @cassidoo helped, and the momentum kept going.

Engagement

  • Average open rate: 53.3 %
  • Click‑through rate: 9.2 %

What I Think I Got Right

My earlier newsletter was a generic roundup of cool links—interesting, but already done by many and a chore to assemble each week. I stopped that version entirely. The idea for a new newsletter came while I was in @saronyitbarek’s Discord, where we shared content ideas.

I settled on a single tip per week, focusing on dev‑related advice after a nudge from @kellyvaughn. I also built a backlog of tips before the first issue, so there was no weekly pressure to create new content on the fly. I can now reorder, drop, or postpone tips as needed, and I already have material planned through the end of March.

The result: a newsletter that feels like a quick, valuable read rather than a burdensome compilation.
