Overview
Oukitel’s WP63 is a ruggedized smartphone designed with an unconventional built‑in electric igniter. Targeted at emergency responders and campers, the device can start fires when you’ve forgotten matches.
Igniter Feature
- The WP63 houses an electric coil that heats up, similar to the cigarette lighters found in cars from the late‑1980s.
- The coil is concealed behind a protective cover at the top of the phone. When the cover pops out, the igniter is activated via a dedicated app.
- During a demonstration, an Oukitel spokesperson successfully lit a rolled‑up piece of paper (resembling a cigarette) with the igniter, noting that the heat output felt “gentle” and controllable.
Note: Another spokesperson mentioned that the igniter cannot be used to light candles, though the reason was not explained.
Other Notable Specs
- Battery: 20,000 mAh, providing extended usage time for outdoor activities.
- Audio: Built‑in loudspeaker for amplified alerts or media playback.
- Charging: Integrated USB‑C cable that can charge other devices directly from the phone.
Pricing, Size, and Potential Uses
- Price: Approximately $500.
- Thickness: 27 mm, deliberately ignoring the industry trend toward ultra‑thin designs.
- Potential defensive use: In a bear encounter, the phone’s bulk and sturdy construction could theoretically be used to deliver a concussive blow.
