TL;DR

  • Vivo has confirmed that the upcoming X300 Ultra will support the APV codec.
  • This follows the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, the first device to support the feature.
  • The APV codec enables visually lossless video that should maintain the same quality after repeated edits.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra is the first phone to support the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec. The device lets users choose between low‑ and high‑quality APV video profiles. Samsung notes that a 1080p/30 fps video recorded with the low‑quality profile consumes about 750 MB per minute, while the high‑quality profile uses roughly 1.5 GB per minute.

Vivo X300 Ultra – APV Support

Vivo confirmed to journalists at MWC 2026 that the upcoming X300 Ultra will support the APV codec. According to the company:

  • APV will be available at up to 4K/120 fps via the phone’s three rear cameras.
  • Users can combine APV with Log video capture for greater post‑production flexibility.

“APV is a visually lossless video codec developed by Samsung for professional video capture and workflows. It maintains the same quality after repeated edits and offers storage savings of up to 20 % compared to HEVC.” – Vivo statement

Additional Pro Video Features on the X300 Ultra

Beyond APV support, Vivo says the X300 Ultra will include:

  • Pro Video mode with a tweaked interface and controls similar to professional cinema cameras.
  • Quad Mic Audio Recording Master with six preset scenarios for ambient noise suppression.
  • Subject tracking capable of 4K/60 fps (the X300 Pro’s auto‑tracking tops out at 1080p/30 fps).
