Instagram ‘Instants’ app launches on Android, and it’s basically Snapchat

Instagram is expanding its lineup of social apps with Instants, a dedicated app that mirrors Snapchat’s core “Shots” feature. Previously, this functionality was embedded in Instagram’s messages section for quick, in‑the‑moment sharing, but it wasn’t widely known, prompting the split into its own app.
The Instants app lets you log in with your Instagram account and opens straight to the camera. You can send moments to friends, and the photos disappear after 24 hours.
Instagram’s description:
Introducing Instants, an app from Instagram. Share disappearing photos with friends. Connect with your favorite people over life’s little moments.
Real life, real quick – Get straight to the camera to share with friends, fast. No edits, share instantly.
Photos disappear – Instants can’t be viewed again once they’re gone, and can’t be viewed after 24 hours.
Use either app – Share and view Instants from here or on Instagram.
Anything shared from or to Instants can also be viewed in the main Instagram app. The experience is available on both Android and iOS (region‑dependent) and feels reminiscent of Snapchat.
