I’m joining OpenAI

TL;DR
I’m joining OpenAI to work on bringing agents to everyone. OpenClaw will move to a foundation and stay open and independent.
Recent developments
The last month has been a whirlwind. I never expected my playground project to create such waves, and it’s been incredibly fun to see how my work inspired people around the world. An endless array of possibilities opened up, with countless folks offering advice, asking about investment, and wondering what I’ll do next. “Overwhelming” is an understatement.
Why OpenAI?
When I started exploring AI, my goal was to have fun and inspire people. Now, my next mission is to build an agent that even my mum can use. Achieving that requires broader changes, careful safety considerations, and access to the latest models and research.
I could see OpenClaw becoming a huge company, but that isn’t what excites me. I’m a builder at heart. After 13 years of creating a company and learning a lot, I want to change the world, not just build a large business. Teaming up with OpenAI is the fastest way to bring my vision to everyone.
Last week I spent time in San Francisco talking with major labs, gaining access to people and unreleased research. The conversations were inspiring, and I’m grateful for the opportunities and the folks I met.
OpenClaw foundation
It has always been important to me that OpenClaw stays open source and free to flourish. I felt OpenAI was the best place to continue pushing my vision and expanding its reach. The more I talked with the team there, the clearer it became that we share the same vision.
OpenAI has made strong commitments to enable me to dedicate my time to the project and is already sponsoring it. To give the project a proper structure, I’m working on turning OpenClaw into a foundation. It will remain a place for thinkers, hackers, and people who want to own their data, with the goal of supporting even more models and companies.
Looking forward
I’m super excited to join OpenAI, be part of the frontier of AI research and development, and continue building with all of you.
The claw is the law.
