This is a submission for the New Year, New You Portfolio Challenge Presented by Google AI

About Me

Hi, I’m Nhi Nguyen, a CS student and former Software Engineer Intern in Toulouse, France. Traditional portfolios always felt a bit static to me—exactly what my previous portfolio looked like. For the Google AI Portfolio Challenge I wanted to build something that didn’t just showcase my work, but hinted at the future of development.

What happens when you combine a Vietnamese software engineer’s love for food and pop music with the power of Gemini and Antigravity? You get a futuristic, macOS‑inspired digital workspace.

How I Built It: The 100 % AI‑Architected Workflow

The Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React + Vite (lightning‑fast HMR)
  • Styling: Tailwind CSS + Framer Motion (macOS‑style animations)
  • Backend / Database: Google Firebase & Firestore
  • Deployment: Google Cloud Run (containerized for reliability)
  • AI Orchestration: Gemini 3 Pro (High) via Antigravity AI Agent

Antigravity helped create the project from design through content translation, backend setup, and deployment to Cloud Run, showcasing how powerful this AI‑driven IDE can be.

The Design Journey: From Vision to “Voilà!”

Building the site wasn’t just about code; it was about translating a personality into a digital experience. I treated Gemini as my Creative Director, using Planning Mode to set a “North Star.”

My initial prompt combined identity and technical goals:

“I want to create my portfolio website in a modern, futuristic design with a mix of small food and pop music influences. I am a Vietnamese girl and a software engineer, and I want it to be as creative as possible. Sections must include: blogs, projects, work experience, and an ‘About Me’ section.”

Gemini delivered not only a layout but a full strategy. After refining the plan and polishing the initial structure, I realized the project needed a “Wow” factor.

The Evolution: The “Finder” UI

The macOS Finder‑style interface emerged from a recursive AI workflow:

  1. Refinement – Gemini “interviewed” me to flesh out exact technical requirements and folder logic for a Finder‑style UI.
  2. Execution – The ultra‑specific prompt was fed to Antigravity’s AI Agent, which produced a pixel‑perfect, error‑free UI that mimics Finder’s logic while keeping my “futuristic foodie” aesthetic.

What I’m Most Proud Of

1. The “Finder” UI Experience

The centerpiece is the “Get To Know Me” section, built as a fully functional macOS Finder clone:

  • Interactive Folders – Browse my education and interests as if you were looking through my actual laptop.
  • Aesthetic – A blend of futuristic glassmorphism and pop‑culture vibes.
  • Logic – Implemented with Framer Motion for buttery‑smooth, Apple‑like animations.

2. Leveling Up My DevOps & Cloud Game

Before this challenge many of these tools felt like buzzwords; now they’re core parts of my toolkit:

  • Docker – Containerized the React app for consistent environments.
  • Nginx – Configured a high‑performance web server for frontend assets.
  • Google Cloud Run – Deployed the containerized service and managed its lifecycle.
  • Firebase – Integrated a NoSQL backend for project data and blog content.

Try It Out!

Thanks for checking out my portfolio—I had a blast pushing the boundaries of what an AI IDE can do.

Challenge: I’ve hidden a few fun details in the “Interests” folder of my Finder UI. Explore my laptop and let me know in the comments what you find!
