Hate AI? Survey reveals how many of you pay for AI subscriptions, and you won’t like the answer

Generative AI services and chatbots are everywhere nowadays, but to access all their features you often need to pay. Premium offerings typically give power users extra leeway, additional tokens, faster processing speeds, or more advanced models. I don’t subscribe to any AI services; I prefer free iterations where possible. But the question is, do you?

Survey Overview

We ran a recent poll (link) to gauge how many readers pay for AI services. Over 2,000 votes were collected.

Results

• 43% of respondents do not pay for any AI services.
• 33% admit that they do pay for at least one service.
• When combining those who subscribe to one or two services, the total rises to 48% of respondents.

Subscription Details

• 6% pay for three AI services.
• 1% pay for four AI services.
• A small fraction pay for five or more.

Overall, fewer than 10% of respondents pay for three or more AI subscriptions.

Takeaway

Many users who pay for AI do so indirectly (e.g., bundled with other subscriptions). It’s worth auditing which AI services you truly need; you might save a significant amount of money.
