Rollout Overview
Following our report last month, Google is beginning to roll out its gradient icon redesign for Workspace apps. The first appearance of this major visual revamp is in the web app launcher available in the top‑right corner of most Google sites and on Chrome’s New Tab page.
Icon Availability
The new icons are now visible for:
- Gmail
- Google Drive
- Docs
- Sheets
- Slides
- Calendar
- Chat
- Meet
- Vids
- Forms
- Keep
- Voice
- Tasks
These icons also appear in the top‑left corner of some Google apps. So far they have been spotted in:
The favicons remain unchanged, and the logos inside the actual editors have not yet been updated.
Design Changes
With this revamp, Google addresses criticism of the previous icon set. Colors and shapes are now more distinct, and the mandate to include all four company colors in every icon has been dropped for most apps—Gmail remains the sole exception.
The Workspace page container has been removed for most apps, allowing larger, more unique icons. For a full icon comparison, see our original report: Google gradient icon redesign report.
Further Updates
Update: The gradient icons are now rolling out to iOS.
