New lock‑screen widget for flight tracking

Google has introduced a lock‑screen widget for Android 16 that provides live updates on your flights. The widget displays:

  • Departing airport
  • Destination airport
  • Estimated arrival time
  • A progress bar indicating how far into the flight you are

The feature builds on existing travel capabilities in Google Wallet, such as push notifications for flight changes. The flight‑progress widget was first promised by Google last year.

How to try it

  1. Add your boarding pass to the Google Wallet app.
  2. The widget should appear on the lock screen shortly before takeoff.

No additional setup is required beyond storing the boarding pass in Google Wallet.

Impact on Google Wallet

This addition follows the rebranding of Google Pay to Google Wallet in 2024, which consolidated credit cards and other digital documents into a single app. The new flight‑tracker widget demonstrates Google’s ongoing effort to add convenient features for Android users.
