Google Photos support has returned for Aura’s digital photo frames

Digital photo frames offer a quick and easy way to display your family photos at home, and Google Photos integration is a natural fit. Changes to Google Photos last year broke the integration for Aura frames, but support has now returned.
In March 2025, Google Photos limited access for third‑party apps (announced the prior September), leaving products such as Aura’s frames without a way to sync photos. Google later said it would restore access for third‑party photo frames, but gave no timeline.
Now the update is live. As noted by The Verge, a new Ambient API from Google Photos allows Aura frames to sync with your library.
Updated Google Photos integration
Aura explains:
With our updated Google Photos integration, you can add photos directly from the Google Photos app or sync an entire Google Photos album to keep Aura frames updated automatically. Photos are sent directly to your Aura frames from Google Photos, without the need for manual uploads.
Previously, the only way to use Google Photos content on Aura frames was to download photos and upload them via Aura’s app.
The new integration is detailed on Aura’s support page. Users can:
- Auto‑add photos via the Aura app’s Google Photos integration, syncing an entire album. All current photos are added, and any new photos added to the album in Google Photos are automatically sent to the frame.
- Select individual photos (up to 50 MP) for your frame(s).
- On Android devices, use the Aura app’s “Auto‑Add” function.
- On iOS devices, add individual photos directly from the Google Photos app via the Share Sheet.
Individual photos remain on the frame even if you delete them from Google Photos; you must use the “remove” option in the app to delete them from the frame. See the article on Removing Photos from Your Frame.
If you sync an entire Google Photos album, any photos you delete from that album will also disappear from the frame (typically within a day or two).

Aura digital photo frames start at around $150.
