New Generative AI Features for Google Maps

Google announced a suite of generative AI capabilities for its mapping and geospatial apps, targeting enterprise users. Unveiled at Cloud Next in Las Vegas, these features add visual and data‑analytics power to the Google Maps platform.

Maps Imagery Grounding

The Maps Imagery Grounding feature lets enterprise users generate realistic scenes in Google Street View. By entering a text prompt into the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, users can visualize projects—such as movie sets or construction sites—directly within Street View, provided the appropriate settings are enabled in Google Maps Imagery.

“In seconds, you can storyboard your creative vision with an accurate image—and you can even use Veo to animate the scene,” Google said in its press release.

Aerial and Satellite Insights

Google Earth now includes Aerial and Satellite Insights, which enables analysis of satellite imagery stored in Google Cloud’s BigQuery. According to Google, this feature can reduce tasks that previously took weeks down to minutes.

Earth AI Imagery Models

Two new Earth AI Imagery models have been launched to assist with geospatial analysis. These models are trained to identify specific objects in imagery—such as bridges, roads, and power lines—eliminating the need for companies to build and train their own AI systems, a process that could take months.

Enterprise Adoption

The updates extend Google’s broader push into enterprise geospatial AI. The Earth AI platform is already being used by partners including:

These collaborations span applications from environmental monitoring to disaster response.

“These AI updates unlock entirely new possibilities for businesses, data analysts, and urban planners,” the company said in its release.
