Google introduces Gemini app for macOS

Google is launching a new Gemini app on Mac that lets you interact with the AI assistant without switching windows on your desktop. Using the Option + Space shortcut pulls up a floating chat bubble where you can ask Gemini questions and share your current window.

Before sharing your window, you’ll need to grant Gemini permission to access your system’s information. Once permission is granted, the AI assistant can pull information from what you’re looking at to help answer your question.

The experience resembles Apple’s upgraded version of Spotlight, which now lets you perform actions on your device.
