Google is converting the Fitbit app into a centralized portal where you can see a comprehensive view of your health and fitness data. The update rolls out on May 19, after which the app will be officially called the Health app and will feature a new icon. Google Fit users will receive an invite to migrate their data into the new app later this year.

New layout

The Health app introduces four main tabs:

  • Today – Overview of stats and activities, with insights from the Gemini‑powered Google Health Coach (for Premium subscribers).
  • Fitness – Workout library, recent activity summary, and a “weekly plan” where you can save workout suggestions that Health Coach can generate.
  • Sleep – Sleep scores, duration, and a detailed view of total REM sleep.
  • Health – Key vitals such as heart rate, weight, blood oxygen, and blood pressure.

Medical records (US only)

US users will be able to sync medical records, allowing lab results and medication information to be viewed within the app. Google states that data will be stored locally in the app, with user controls for usage and sharing. Integration with other health services (e.g., Peloton, MyFitnessPal) and step‑sharing leaderboards are also supported. Google reaffirms its commitment: “We are committed to not using Fitbit user health and wellness data for Google Ads.”

Google Health Coach

The personal AI Health Coach, introduced last year, will exit preview on May 19 and become globally available as part of the Google Health Premium subscription (formerly Fitbit Premium). The service is powered by Gemini and was previously tested with NBA star Steph Curry.

Pricing and eligibility

  • Subscription cost: $10 / month or $99 / year.
  • Free access: Included for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
  • Device eligibility: Early access for owners of eligible Fitbit devices or Pixel Watch; broader device support will follow.

Rollout timeline

Google plans to complete the Health app rollout when the new Fitbit Air reaches stores on May 26.
