The Situation

  • My account was restricted without warning, unlike a previous temporary restriction that was quickly lifted.
  • The loss meant I could no longer showcase the work that many employers and collaborators had reviewed before deciding to work with me.

The Emotional Side Nobody Talks About

When developers lose access to an account, the common advice is “just create another account.”
However, after years of building reputation, commit history, and credibility under a single username, it feels like losing a carefully curated digital portfolio. For a moment I felt stuck, wondering whether to wait endlessly for support or move on.

What I Decided

I realized I couldn’t pause my growth waiting for a platform decision. I created a new GitHub account:

While I still hope the original account will be restored, I’m no longer letting the situation halt my momentum.

Lessons I Learned

Your skills matter more than one platform

Platforms are useful, but your actual ability, experience, and consistency are what truly count. The projects I built still exist.

Always back up important work

  • Keep local backups of repositories and important files.
  • Relying solely on a remote service can leave you vulnerable to unexpected restrictions.

Your identity is bigger than your username

“KelvCodes” was part of my online identity, and losing it was painful. Yet the real value lies in the work, discipline, and consistency behind the name, not the name itself.

Developers must keep adapting

Technology and platforms evolve, and systems can fail. Developers need to build through uncertainty—adaptability is part of the journey.

Moving Forward

My focus now is simple:

  • Continue building and contributing to new projects.

If anything, this setback has motivated me even more. To any developer facing setbacks, platform issues, burnout, or moments that feel unfair: keep building. Sometimes rebuilding becomes an essential part of your story.
