Gemini looks to solve its “feature overload” problem with a newer UI
Source: Android Authority

TL;DR
- Google is testing a redesigned attachment sheet in Gemini to replace the current four‑button layout.
- The new UI features larger icons for primary tools and a horizontally scrollable second row for additional options.
- These changes apply to both the main Gemini app and the overlay interface triggered over other apps.
Background
Google is rapidly iterating on Gemini’s functionality, and new features appear frequently. Earlier we reported on a combined attachment sheet and model picker similar to ChatGPT’s layout — see the Android Authority article. That attachment sheet has not yet rolled out to all users, but recent testing with Google app v17.6.58 shows further progress.
Current attachment sheet
- Shows only four buttons: Camera, Gallery, Files, and Drive.
- An earlier redesign attempted to add more options on the top row, resulting in cramped icons and text overflow onto a second line. That version never shipped.
Upcoming redesign
The new UI makes the following changes:
- Photos (formerly Gallery), Camera, and Files receive larger icons for easier access.
- Drive, NotebookLM, and Map are moved to a smaller second row that is horizontally scrollable, allowing Google to add more options without cluttering the primary row.
Overlay interface
When Gemini is invoked over another app and the user taps the Plus button, the overlay will display the same larger primary buttons (Photos, Camera, Files) with the scrollable second row (Drive, NotebookLM, Map).
Status
The redesigned attachment sheet has not yet rolled out in Gemini. We will update the article when the changes become publicly available.
⚠️ An APK teardown can hint at upcoming features, but predicted items may never reach a public release.
