New Gemini‑powered automation for Google Home
Google Home is rolling out a new Gemini‑powered automation feature that can trigger smart‑home routines based on what your security cameras see. Your cameras will watch for specific events and automatically trigger the actions you need.

How it works
- Visual insights: Cameras can now understand the visual content they capture.
- Automation triggers: When a camera detects a predefined event (e.g., a person arriving, a package being left at the door), it can automatically start a routine such as turning on lights, sending a notification, or adjusting the thermostat.
- User‑defined rules: Users can design custom automations that respond to almost any visual cue around the home.
Additional updates
Alongside the visual‑trigger feature, Google announced several other improvements for Gemini for Home:
- Enhanced voice command support – more natural language handling and broader command coverage.
- General stability improvements – refinements to ensure smoother operation after the early‑access launch in October.
