Dusting Off the Keyboard: My Pivot from Software Development to Project Management
Source: Dev.to
Background
It’s been a couple of years since I last posted here. My early days were spent as a software developer, sharing JavaScript and CSS crash courses and tutorials. I’ve been away from both blogging and software development for a while.
Why I’m Transitioning to Project Management
I spent a long time honing my development skills, aiming to become a great developer. Over time I realized I was more drawn to the questions of why we build something and how we get it into users’ hands efficiently—planning, scope management, and alignment.
I’m moving into Project Management to lean into these strengths: acting as the primary operator for projects, managing expectations, clearing obstacles, and ensuring clear communication.
My Approach
I’m treating this career shift like an open‑source project. Rather than just reading books or articles, I’ll share experiments, case studies, web/software development projects, tools, and the inevitable messes I encounter.
I believe you don’t truly understand a concept until you write about it. By documenting each step, I hold myself accountable and maintain momentum. Building in public will help me create a documented roadmap that might benefit others.
Goals for This Series
- Keep my technical edge sharp; a PM is only as effective as their ability to understand the code they manage.
- Continue posting tutorials alongside my PM experiments.
I look forward to sharing this journey and learning together.
