Clicks reveals SoC, software support for its BlackBerry-like Android phone

A Different Kind of Android Phone

We’ve reached a point where most great Android phones look and feel the same. If you want something different, you can either look at foldables or explore experimental form factors such as the Clicks Communicator. This BlackBerry‑like Android smartphone was shown off at CES, but several details were still unknown—until now.

Hardware

Clicks has confirmed that the Communicator will be powered by the 4 nm MediaTek Dimensity 8300 (M8883) SoC, launched in late 2023. The chipset features:

• 1 × Cortex‑A715 prime core
• 3 × Cortex‑A715 performance cores
• 4 × Cortex‑A510 efficiency cores

The device ships with 256 GB of internal storage and a microSD slot supporting up to 2 TB. The exact amount and type of RAM have not been disclosed yet.

Software Support

The MT8883 platform offers a long runway for Android and security updates. Clicks plans to support the Communicator through Android 20 and provide five years of security updates, an improvement over the initial promise of updates only up to Android 18.

Keyboard Layouts

New keyboard layouts are now supported, including:

• French (AZERTY)
• German (QWERTZ)
• Korean
• Arabic

Customers will be able to select their preferred layout, as well as the device color and back covers, closer to shipping.

Pricing and Availability

The early‑bird window has been extended to March 15. Buyers can:

• Pay a $199 reservation deposit to lock in the $399 early‑bird price, or
• Pay $399 outright to receive two additional back covers.

The Clicks Communicator is slated to begin shipping later this year in three colors—Smoke, Clover, and Onyx—with a launch price of $499.
