New Features for Claude’s Free Tier
Anthropic has launched several significant upgrades to the Claude free tier. Previously, app connectivity was a Pro‑only feature, but it is now available to all free users.
App Connectors
Claude can now connect to a wide range of applications, including:
- Canva
- Figma
- Monday.com
- Notion
- Slack
- Square
- Wix
- WordPress
- Google Workspace apps (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
The full list of Claude connectors is available here.
File Creation
Users can create and save Microsoft Office files directly from any Claude conversation:
- PowerPoint slides
- Excel spreadsheets
- Word documents
- PDFs
Custom Skills
Custom Skills—sets of instructions that Claude follows automatically—are now free. This eliminates the need to repeat the same request in multiple conversations.
Additional Improvements
- Longer conversations for free‑plan users.
- Interactive responses with richer formatting.
- Enhanced image and voice searching capabilities.
Amusingly, when I asked Claude to describe its new free capabilities, it had to search the web to do so.
Context
At a time when ChatGPT has begun rolling out ads in chats (report), Anthropic’s expanded free tier may be a strategic move to attract users to Claude (details). If you’re interested in trying Claude, you can visit the official site: https://claude.ai/.
