TL;DR
- Code in ChatGPT v1.2026.055 reveals an upcoming setting that allows “spicier,” adult‑themed language.
- The feature will be restricted to users aged 18+ and may use OpenAI’s age‑prediction tool together with a selfie‑based ID check via Persona.
- This aligns with CEO Sam Altman’s 2025 comments about allowing erotica for verified adults, aiming to “treat adults like adults.”
The “Naughty chats” toggle
In the latest build (v1.2026.055) strings for a new Naughty chats setting have been discovered. The toggle would relax some of the language and behavioral guardrails that currently limit ChatGPT, enabling “spicier” adult‑themed responses.
+Naughty chats
+This setting lets ChatGPT use spicier, adult-themed language, when you ask. Available to users 18+ only.
+To help keep ChatGPT appropriate for everyone, some settings require age verification.
The setting is intended for users 18 years or older only. If the system cannot determine a user’s age through OpenAI’s recently rolled‑out age‑prediction tool, the user will be placed in the “under‑18” category by default. Users who believe they have been mis‑categorized would need to submit a selfie to Persona, a third‑party identity‑verification service, to be re‑classified as over‑18.
OpenAI’s stance on adult content
Back in October 2025, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman publicly discussed plans to roll out erotica in ChatGPT for verified adults, emphasizing the principle of “treating adult users like adults.”

Altman replied to a user that ChatGPT won’t provide adult‑themed content unless the user explicitly asks for it.

Outlook
If the “Naughty chats” toggle makes it to a public release, it could open new ways for users to interact with the model, but it also raises concerns about potential misuse. We will continue to monitor OpenAI’s announcements and update you on any further developments.
