If you’re stumped by an abstract math problem or a complicated physics concept, ChatGPT can help.

Announced today, OpenAI’s chatbot can now generate interactive visuals in response to prompts on math and science questions, including dynamic, customizable graphs, diagrams, and geometric renderings. Once generated, users can adjust variables and manipulate formulas directly in the chat and watch the visuals change in real‑time.

New Visual Generation Feature

  • Interactive visuals are generated on‑the‑fly based on user prompts.
  • Users can modify parameters (e.g., variables, constants) and see immediate updates.
  • Visuals include graphs, diagrams, and geometric renderings tailored to the question.

Supported Concepts

For now, visual explanations cover 70 “core concepts” in science and math, such as:

  • Pythagorean theorem
  • Charles’ law
  • Ohm’s law
  • Kinetic and potential energy

The subjects are curated for high‑school and college‑age learners, and OpenAI plans to expand the feature with additional topics in the future.

Availability

  • The visual feature is available across all ChatGPT experiences and plans, not limited to Study Mode.
  • It is live now for any user who accesses ChatGPT.

Background

ChatGPT fields math and science questions from 140 million users each week, according to OpenAI. Last year the company introduced Study Mode, a toggle‑on experience designed to act more like an AI tutor, encouraging a Socratic style of learning rather than providing direct solutions. In Mashable’s tests, the chatbot sometimes still provided answers unprompted.

Dynamic visuals, however, are not exclusive to Study Mode; they were designed and tested using the standard ChatGPT mode and will appear throughout the platform.
