Overview

In November, Call Recording for the Pixel Phone app began rolling out broadly, and it’s now receiving international availability. This feature is separate from the Gemini Nano‑powered Call Notes available on the Pixel 9 (except A‑Series) and later. Call Recording works on all other devices and does not provide transcription or summaries.

How to Use

  1. Open the Phone app → SettingsCall Recording to complete the setup/download process.
  2. During a call, open the Call Assist menu to activate recording.
  3. Optional settings:
    • “Automatically record calls with non‑contacts.”
    • Specify numbers that should always be recorded.

A countdown precedes a spoken message that notifies everyone on the line that the call is being recorded. You can tap Stop mid‑call to end the recording. Recordings appear in the Home tab with a microphone icon and an inline player.

You can set recordings to delete automatically after 7, 14, 30 days, or Never. A “Delete all” option is also available in the settings.

Availability

  • Supported devices: Pixel 6 and newer running Android 14 or later.
  • Regional support: You must be in a country or region where call recording is permitted. Availability varies by location.

Google announced the broader rollout in September, noting that the expansion to new countries would continue throughout the year. By November, the feature was widely available in the US, though early reports indicated limited rollout in Europe. Recent reports show the feature going live in several European countries.

With the launch of the Pixel 10a, Google stated that “all markets” and languages would receive Call Recording in the Phone app by the end of February, or before the new device reaches store shelves.
