Bluesky now supports better quality photos

Update Details
Bluesky announced a new version of its app (v1.121) that boosts image quality in posts, both in upload size and resolution. The previous limit of 1 MB per photo has been doubled to 2 MB. Images now render up to 4000 px, compared with the former 2000 px limit.
The old image grid has been replaced with a swipeable carousel that can handle mixed aspect ratios without cropping. Early feedback indicates some users would like the option to choose between a grid and a carousel.
Competitive Landscape
These changes could make Bluesky more competitive with other social networks such as X or Meta’s Threads. Threads became well known after its launch as a showcase for photos, thanks to its support for a variety of aspect ratios and its carousel, which offered clever ways to split larger photos for viewing.
A developer created a standalone app to help users post panoramic photos to Threads—see the TechCrunch article. Threads still supports a larger maximum image size, though it isn’t published in its documentation—see the Outfy guide.
