Overview

Blizzard is finally bringing Overwatch to mobile devices, but not as a direct port of the mainline game. Instead, the company announced a spinoff called Overwatch Rush, described as a “top‑down hero shooter designed specifically for mobile” set in the Overwatch universe.

Gameplay

  • Features many of the familiar Overwatch heroes battling on recognizable maps, shown in a gameplay video.
  • Matches are 4v4 and the characters have a more cartoonish, stylized look to suit smaller screens and the top‑down perspective.
  • Battles are “bite‑sized” with touchscreen‑based controls, aiming for fast‑paced, on‑the‑go play.
  • Offers hero‑centric combat and playstyle customization that works for both team and solo players.

Development and Release

  • Overwatch Rush is being developed by a new, separate, dedicated team focused exclusively on the mobile title, ensuring resources aren’t diverted from the main Overwatch game.
  • The game is still in early development and will enter a beta testing phase soon.
  • It will be free‑to‑play and available on both Android and iOS when the full version launches.

Blizzard’s Mobile History

This isn’t Blizzard’s first venture into mobile gaming. The company previously released titles such as Diablo Immortal and Warcraft Rumble.
