Overview

Chinese hardware manufacturer Ayaneo has unveiled its upcoming flagship Windows handheld gaming console, the Next 2. It ships with AMD’s Strix Halo chips, a 9.06‑inch OLED display, and the largest built‑in battery ever seen in this class. Pre‑orders are live on Indiegogo, with a starting price of $1,799 for the 32 GB RAM / 1 TB SSD model and up to $4,299 for the top‑spec configuration (128 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD, AMD AI Max+ 395).

Design & Build

  • Available in white and black finishes.
  • Larger chassis than most current handhelds (e.g., Asus ROG Ally X, Valve Steam Deck).
  • Weight: 3.14 lb (≈ 1.42 kg), more than double the Steam Deck’s weight.

Display

  • Custom OLED panel, 2400 × 1504 resolution.
  • Adjustable refresh rates: 60 Hz, 120 Hz, 144 Hz, 165 Hz (variable refresh rate support not confirmed).
  • Covers 100 % of the DCI‑P3 color gamut.
  • Peak brightness up to 1,155 nits.

Performance

Ryzen AI Max+ 395 (Strix Halo)

  • 16 Zen 5 CPU cores.
  • Integrated Radeon 8060S iGPU (performance comparable to a laptop RTX 4060).
  • Up to 128 GB LPDDR5X unified memory @ 8,000 MT/s, with up to 96 GB allocable as VRAM.

Ryzen AI Max 385 (alternative)

  • 8‑core CPU.
  • Integrated Radeon 8050S graphics.
  • 32 GB memory, 1 TB SSD.

Both configurations can be paired with up to 2 TB SSD storage.

Cooling & Battery

  • Dual‑fan cooling system with a large heatsink to manage the Strix Halo SoC under sustained loads.
  • 116 Whr built‑in battery – larger than the typical 99 Whr limit for most laptops.
    • Note: Airline regulations generally allow batteries up to 100 Whr without special clearance.

Comparison

The only other handheld using a Strix Halo chip is the GPD Win 5, which also features the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 but relies on a detachable external battery rather than an integrated one.

All specifications and pricing are based on the official Indiegogo listing.
