Overview
2011’s Sony Ericsson Xperia Play offered a slide‑out gamepad, and we haven’t really seen anything like that since. AYANEO recently announced a spiritual successor in the form of the Pocket Play. The company has now posted a YouTube video that shows the upcoming phone in more detail.
The video (displayed at the top of the page) presents the Pocket Play from several angles. It reveals the slide‑out gamepad, which features two trackpads in place of analog sticks, transparent face buttons, and a D‑pad. The shoulder keys are shown as purely digital controls, consistent with earlier images.
Additional elements visible in the video include the rear cover with a dual rear‑camera housing and the flat screen. The clip also emphasizes the phone’s relatively thick design, which may disappoint those expecting a slimmer form factor, though it should still fit comfortably in a pants pocket.
Specifications
- Processor: MediaTek Dimensity 9300 with active cooling (details)
- Display: 6.8‑inch OLED panel with a 165 Hz refresh rate
- Colors: Void Black or Silver White
- Other details pending: RAM and storage configurations, battery capacity, charging speeds, etc.
Fans of the original Xperia Play should keep an eye on this device ahead of its Kickstarter release.
