Overview

Apple’s press release and marketing materials for the new Studio Display and Studio Display XDR models do not specify which chips are inside the monitors. However, MacRumors has confirmed the chip details by examining the latest Studio Display firmware.

Chip Details

  • Studio Display (second‑generation) – equipped with an A19 chip.
  • Studio Display XDR – equipped with an A19 Pro chip.

These findings come from code reviewed by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris. Earlier rumors had suggested the presence of either the A19 or A19 Pro chip, and the firmware analysis shows that the two chips are split across the two models.

Previous Model

The original Studio Display released in 2022 used an A13 Bionic chip, a detail Apple highlighted in its marketing. The A13 Bionic enabled features such as:

  • Center Stage camera framing
  • Spatial Audio
  • “Siri” and “Hey Siri” voice activation

Apple introduced the A13 Bionic chip with the iPhone 11 series in 2019.

New Chip Features

The A19 and A19 Pro chips, introduced across the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air models last year, are much newer. They likely:

  • Drive the improved six‑speaker sound system in both new Studio Display models
  • Enable the camera’s Desk View feature, which can show the user’s face and an overhead view of the desk simultaneously

Audio Improvements

Apple states that the six‑speaker sound system in both new Studio Displays delivers 30 % deeper bass compared to the previous generation.

Looking Ahead

Further details about the new Studio Displays and their internal hardware will emerge through upcoming reviews and teardowns.
