Overview
Apple’s biggest iPhone announcements usually happen in September, but for the second year in a row the company is also introducing a new iPhone in March. The iPhone 17e is a new version of Apple’s basic, no‑frills iPhone, replacing last year’s iPhone 16e (Ars Technica review). Pre‑orders begin on March 4, with shipments starting on March 11. The base model starts at $599.
Specifications
- Processor: Apple A19 chip (same as the iPhone 17) with six CPU cores and four GPU cores (the iPhone 17 has five GPU cores).
- RAM: 8 GB, supporting Apple Intelligence.
- Modem: Upgraded from Apple C1 to Apple C1X for faster cellular speeds.
- Display: Ceramic Shield 2 front glass (also used in the iPhone 17) with an “Apple‑designed coating” that is three times more scratch‑resistant than the iPhone 16e coating and reduces reflections and glare.
- MagSafe: Supports MagSafe charging, a feature missing from the iPhone 16e.
- Storage: Base model now offers 256 GB (up from 128 GB). A 512 GB variant is also available.
