Announcement
Apple today announced the iPhone 17e with support for MagSafe and an upgraded A19 chip. The base model gets 256 GB of storage at $599, and it features the new scratch‑resistant Ceramic Shield 2 glass, claimed to be three times more durable than the iPhone 16e.
MagSafe and Charging
- MagSafe normally enables faster wireless charging; recent iPhones can charge up to 22 W–25 W.
- The iPhone 17e is limited to 15 W, the same as MagSafe on iPhone 12 through iPhone 15. This is an improvement over the 16e but below the maximum possible speed.
Processor
- The iPhone 16e used the A18 chip; the 17e introduces the A19.
- Apple states the A19 “delivers exceptional performance for everything users do.”
- Apple continues to use “binned” chips, which are units that failed minor manufacturing tests and may have fewer active cores.
Camera
- The device retains a single front‑facing and a single rear camera.
- Portrait mode wording changes from “Portrait mode with Depth Control” (iPhone 12) to “Next‑generation portraits with Focus and Depth Control” (iPhone 17), indicating adjustable focus points.
Availability
- Colors: white, black, soft pink.
- Starting price: $599.
