Overview

Apple’s next‑generation MacBook Pro is expected to bring several major upgrades, including an OLED display with a Dynamic Island cutout, a touchscreen similar to the iPad and iPhone, and more powerful M6 Pro and M6 Max chips.

Supply‑chain delays

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is encountering production issues due to industry‑wide memory shortages. These constraints have pushed the MacBook Pro launch back slightly, with a possible release not until early next year.

Previously, Gurman indicated a late 2026 – early 2027 launch window, with many anticipating an announcement around October or November. The new timeline now points to the latter part of that window, primarily because of shortages in components such as RAM and SSD storage. The upcoming update to the Mac Studio has also been delayed for the same reasons.

Software readiness

Gurman notes that the software accommodations for the new touchscreen MacBook Pro will be ready for the fall as part of macOS 27, so the delay is not related to software development.

Earlier reporting detailed the touch‑screen interface, which will include new contextual menu controls, dynamically enlarged buttons in the system menu bar, and more:

Potential positioning

It remains unclear how Apple will position this model within the MacBook Pro lineup. With the extensive upgrades, Apple might introduce the OLED MacBook Pro as a new high‑end variant at a higher price point, while continuing to sell the current M5 MacBook Pros at existing prices. This approach could help manage demand amid constrained supply.
