Background

Apple’s macOS Tahoe launched last September with a new Liquid Glass‑infused design. While the visual language works well on the iPhone and iPad, some elements didn’t translate as smoothly to the desktop environment.

Design Changes in macOS 27

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans a “slight redesign” for the upcoming macOS 27. The core Liquid Glass aesthetic will remain, but Apple will address several legibility and usability concerns:

  • Improved readability in the Control Center.
  • Cleaner presentation in Finder.
  • Refined sidebars and dense list layouts in various apps.

These adjustments are expected to be modest tweaks rather than a full overhaul.

Hardware Improvements

The rollout of new MacBooks with OLED displays—replacing the current LCD panels—should enhance the appearance of the Liquid Glass interface. Apple is slated to introduce several OLED‑equipped MacBooks over the next year, which will make the visual effects more vivid and crisp.

Additional Updates

Gurman also notes that macOS 27 will include:

  • General bug fixes.
  • Battery life enhancements.
  • Performance improvements.
  • Expanded AI features, primarily through Apple’s smart assistant Siri.

Expected Release

Apple is anticipated to unveil macOS 27 at its WWDC conference, which begins on June 8, 2026.
