Apples foldable phone now has a name, report claims

Apple’s first foldable phone, due later this year, might not be called iPhone Fold as many reports have suggested.
Naming
According to a report from Macworld that cites a source familiar with Apple’s plans, the device will be named iPhone Ultra and will join Apple’s “Ultra” lineup, which currently includes the Apple Watch Ultra and the upcoming MacBook Ultra.
Ultra Lineup
The Ultra moniker is intended to signify the top‑tier offering in each product category. Apple reportedly plans to market the foldable iPhone as a higher‑end model than the Pro iPhones. The iPhone Ultra is expected to be introduced alongside the Pro models in September, though it may arrive “a few weeks later and in smaller quantities.”
Background
- In March, Bloomberg reported that Apple might not use the Ultra name for its foldable phone.
- The new report suggests Apple will also extend the Ultra branding to the Mac, potentially for a touchscreen MacBook or even an Ultra iMac.
Apple already uses the Ultra label for several products, such as the Apple Watch Ultra, the M1 Ultra chip, and CarPlay Ultra. While the criteria for the designation appear somewhat arbitrary, it consistently denotes the most powerful product in the company’s lineup.
