Pendant with Cameras

Apple is reportedly developing a new wearable accessory—described as a pendant with cameras—that could launch as early as next year. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the device is in an advanced testing stage and trails the development of AirPods with cameras.

  • Form factor: The pendant would attach to clothing with a clip, or be worn as a necklace via a cord or chain inserted into a hole in the device.
  • Hardware: It would feature an always‑on camera and a microphone for Siri voice commands, but it would lack a display and laser projector. The pendant is said to have its own chip, though performance is limited, so it would rely heavily on a paired iPhone for processing. Apple is reportedly debating whether to add a speaker.
  • Integration: The accessory is expected to function primarily as an iPhone add‑on rather than a standalone product, similar to the failed Humane AI Pin.
  • Timeline: Early reports from The Information (Wayne Ma and Qianer Liu) suggest the project could launch as early as 2027, though it remains in an early development stage and could be canceled.

Smart Glasses

Gurman also notes that Apple continues work on smart glasses, with an anticipated unveiling in late 2026 or early 2027 and a potential release the following year.

  • Design options: At least four potential frame styles are being explored:

    • Larger rectangular frame (similar to Ray‑Ban Wayfarers)
    • Slimmer rectangular design (reminiscent of glasses worn by Apple CEO Tim Cook)
    • Larger oval or circular frames
    • Smaller oval or circular frames
  • Features:

    • Built‑in cameras for photo and video capture.
    • Speakers and microphones for music, phone calls, and Siri notifications.
    • Tight iPhone integration and premium build quality.
    • Cameras may feed data to Siri and Apple Intelligence, enhancing features such as turn‑by‑turn walking directions.
  • Color and lens options: Apple is exploring colors like black, ocean blue, and light brown, and the glasses may feature vertically‑oriented oval camera lenses.

  • Partnerships: Development may involve collaboration with the American eyewear company Warby Parker.
