While the MacBook Neo starts at just $599, or an even lower $499 for college students, Apple has insisted that it did not make any design compromises.

“It’s undeniably a MacBook, we’re certainly not making any compromises on the design and that’s really important,” said Apple’s vice‑president of industrial design Molly Anderson in an interview with the architecture and design publication Dezeen.

Anderson added that it was important for the MacBook Neo “to be quintessentially a MacBook.”

Design Philosophy

  • The MacBook Neo is intended to feel like part of the MacBook family while possessing its own personality.
  • Anderson emphasized that the device was “starting from the beginning” rather than being a simple redesign.

Materials and Build

  • Constructed from aluminium, not plastic.
  • Anderson highlighted the use of “incredible aluminium” and stressed that no cheaper materials were employed.

Color Options

  • Available in vibrant colors such as Blush and Citrus, distinguishing it from the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.

Spec Limitations

  • RAM: 8 GB only.
  • Touch ID: Limited to the $699 model.
  • MagSafe: Not included.
  • USB‑C Port: One port limited to USB 2 speeds (480 MB/s).
  • Keyboard: Keys are not backlit.
