Apple Brings iPhone-Style Battery Charge Limits to the Mac in macOS Tahoe 26.4
Source: MacRumors
The macOS Tahoe 26.4 beta introduces a Charge Limit feature for Macs, adding a new slider that lets users set a maximum charge level between 80 % and 100 %.
How to Enable Charge Limit
- Open System Settings.
- Navigate to Battery.
- Click the “i” button next to Charging.
- Use the slider to choose a charge limit (80 %, 85 %, 90 %, 95 %, or 100 %).
Difference from Optimized Battery Charging
- Optimized Battery Charging: Learns your daily charging routine and delays reaching 100 % until needed, but still allows the battery to charge fully on a regular basis.
- Charge Limit: Acts as a hard restriction, preventing the battery from exceeding the selected percentage, giving users precise control over the maximum charge level.
Impact on Battery Longevity
Setting the charge limit to a lower value (e.g., 80 %) can help preserve battery health over time, potentially extending the overall lifespan of the Mac’s battery.
