Anthropic's Claude Gets More Free Features as OpenAI Starts Showing Ads in ChatGPT
Source: MacRumors
Overview
Anthropic announced that customers who use Claude without a subscription can now create files, use connectors, and access skills—features that previously required a paid plan.
New Free Features
- File creation and editing – Free users can create, edit, and work with files directly in a Claude conversation using the Sonnet 4.5 model (Pro users have access to the Opus model). Claude can generate Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, and PDF files.
- Connectors – Integration with apps and services such as Slack, Asana, Zapier, Stripe, Canva, Notion, Figma, and WordPress.
- Skills – Repeatable filesystem‑based resources that give Claude domain‑specific expertise. Anthropic provides built‑in PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and PDF skills, and users can create custom skills using their own domain knowledge.
Context: OpenAI Ads in ChatGPT
The announcement comes two days after OpenAI began rolling out ads for ChatGPT users who do not have a paid subscription or who are on the most affordable “Go” plan. By keeping Claude ad‑free, Anthropic may attract users who prefer a chatbot experience without advertisements.
