New Memory Import Tool
Anthropic introduced a memory‑import feature that can extract the conversation history and context from another AI chatbot and turn it into a text prompt for Claude. The extracted prompt can be pasted into Claude’s memory interface, allowing the model to continue a conversation that began with a different chatbot such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or Copilot.
How It Works
- Use Anthropic’s tool to export the other chatbot’s memories into a text prompt.
- Copy the generated prompt.
- Paste it into Claude’s “Memories” section.
Claude will begin assimilating the new context, a process that takes roughly 24 hours. Users can monitor progress by clicking the “See what Claude learned about you” button. The “Manage memory” settings let users edit or remove specific memories. Anthropic notes that Claude is primarily intended to retain work‑related information, and it may omit personal details unrelated to professional tasks.
Market Context
Claude recently reached the top spot in the App Store’s free‑apps chart, overtaking ChatGPT. This surge coincides with Anthropic’s refusal to relax AI guardrails concerning mass domestic surveillance and fully autonomous weapons, a stance that led to a dispute with the U.S. Department of Defense. Consequently, OpenAI is positioned to assume the DoD contract, and some users have begun boycotting ChatGPT and canceling their subscriptions.
