It looks like AMD is spinning up leftover or recycled silicon into gaming gold to maintain its gaming dominance with some of the best CPUs. According to a reputable hardware leaker, chi11eddog, the chipmaker is reportedly preparing the Ryzen 7 7700X3D, a lower‑binned version of the successful Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The new chip will bring the benefits of AMD’s 3D V‑Cache technology to a wider audience and target a more affordable price bracket.

The Ryzen 7 7700X3D will have slightly lower clocks to differentiate it from its higher‑tier counterpart: a 4.0 GHz base and 4.5 GHz boost (200 MHz lower base and 500 MHz lower boost than the 7800X3D’s 4.2 GHz / 5.0 GHz). The modest clock reduction should not significantly impact real‑world gaming performance while allowing a lower price point.

AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D Specifications

ProcessorCores / ThreadsBase / Boost (GHz)L3 Cache (MB)L2 Cache (KB)TDP (W)
Ryzen 9 7950X3D16 / 324.2 / 5.71281,024120
Ryzen 9 7900X3D12 / 244.4 / 5.6128768120
Ryzen 7 7800X3D8 / 164.2 / 5.096512120
Ryzen 7 7700X3D (rumored)8 / 164.0 / 4.596512120
Ryzen 5 7600X3D6 / 124.1 / 4.79638465
Ryzen 5 7500X3D6 / 124.0 / 4.59638465

Specifications are unconfirmed by AMD.

The Ryzen 7 7700X3D appears to retain the same 120 W TDP as the 7800X3D, suggesting similar power and cooling requirements. The lower clock speeds may allow it to run slightly cooler, though real‑world efficiency gains are uncertain.

Upgrade Considerations

Like other Ryzen 7000X3D processors, the Ryzen 7 7700X3D is unlikely to ship with a stock cooler. AMD recommends pairing its X3D chips with a high‑quality liquid cooler.

The Ryzen 7 7800X3D launched in 2023 at an MSRP of $449 and now retails for around $376.99 when available new. Pricing for the upcoming Ryzen 7 7700X3D has not been disclosed, nor has AMD clarified whether the chip will be available to the general public, limited to certain regions, or restricted to OEMs and system integrators.

A competitively priced Ryzen 7 7700X3D could shake up the mid‑range processor segment, especially as ongoing memory shortages keep DDR5 prices high. While the chip may appeal to builders looking for a same‑socket upgrade to benefit from X3D technology, broader consumer adoption may be hampered until DDR5 availability stabilizes.
