Prime members have access to unlimited photo backup, and Amazon just redesigned its Photos app for iPhone users.
Amazon Photos app redesign highlights curated memories and more natural search
Amazon highlights two key upgrades with its redesigned Photos app for iPhone.
First, Amazon Photos now launches right into a curated carousel of memories instead of a simple grid of photos.
When you open Amazon Photos, you’ll see a carousel of memories at the top of the screen—a weekend at the beach, your child’s first birthday, a family vacation—grouped and ready to watch. Tap any collection to play it back in full screen, with your photos flowing from one to the next. The app surfaces what’s worth seeing automatically, so you don’t have to dig through your archives or remember the exact date something happened.
A key part of the memories carousel is Amazon’s On This Day feature, now prominently placed on the tab bar. It brings back pictures and videos from the same date in previous years—what you were doing a year ago, or five—without you having to search for them.
The second upgrade is a more powerful search. Amazon says search now uses natural language, allowing you to describe what’s in an image or the context when it was captured.
Amazon Photos supports unlimited photo storage and 5 GB of video storage with Prime. Additional video storage can be purchased:
- 50 GB for $0.99/month – about 7 hours of 1080p HD video
- 100 GB for $1.99/month – about 14 hours of 1080p HD video
- 1 TB for $6.99/month – about 140 hours of 1080p HD video
- 2 TB for $11.99/month – about 280 hours of 1080p HD video
The redesigned Amazon Photos app is available for iPhone users with a Prime membership starting today. Amazon says an Android version will follow after the new iOS experience launches.
